The Voss Inn will be hosting a tea tasting and presentation entitled “Famous Teas of China” on March 23, 24 and 25. Certified Tea Master Frankee Muller will discuss the history of tea in China with a focus on six of Chinas most famous teas.  Following the discussion will be a gong-fu style tasting of the six teas. The event will start at 6:00 and will go until approximely 8:00. Seating is limited, so reservations are required. The cost of the event is $15 per person.

Ms. Muller received her Tea Master certification from the American Tea Master’s Association in 2010. She lectures on various aspects of tea, gives private tea tastings and does afternoon tea by reservation. Her company A Thirst for Tea imports tea from growers in tea producing countries around the world which she sells on her website and at the Voss Inn.

With the rivers so high the fishing has not been very good so far, but August should be an angler’s paradise!  Until then, there is plenty going on in Bozeman to keep people amused.  Music on Main is every Thursday evening from 6:30 to 8:00 through August 18th. Many shops stay open late and Main Street closes to vehicle traffic at that time.  In addition to the various bands that perform there are several planned activities for children and food vendors provide quick bites to be enjoyed in the streets.

Art Walks occur on the second Friday of the month through September from 6 to 8PM. Art galleries and businesses displaying artwork located along Main Street and at the Emerson Center for Arts and Culture stay open late. The galleries feature artists’ openings and receptions and often provide hors d’oeuvres and complimentary refreshments.  Also, keep an eye out for local musicians playing music as your stroll Main Street in Downtown Bozeman.

The Museum of the Rockies which is located just one mile from the Voss Inn is known for its world famous collection of dinosaur fossils and paleontology program. Dinosaur fossils are found in Montana rocks from the Jurassic and Cretaceous periods. Dinosaur dig crew led by paleontologist and curator Jack Horner, science advisor to the Jurassic Park films, excavate fossils which are prepared and studied at the Museum in Bozeman. Some of the most famous dinosaurs in the world such as Tyrannosaurus rex, Triceratops, and Deinonychus (very similar to Velociraptor) can be seen on display.

The Museum also has exceptional exhibits consisting of several collections including Historical artifacts, Textiles, Archaeology and Ethnographic materials as well as a photo archive collection of historical photography from the Northern Rockies Region of Montana, Idaho, and Wyoming. The Living History Farm offers a chance to experience the sights, sounds, and smells of the Victorian Era. Costumed interpreters demonstrate daily life in the Gallatin Valley circa 1890. The centerpiece of the Living History Farm is the Tinsley House, a two-story farmhouse built in 1889 by William and Lucy Tinsley and their eight children. The interior, which is open for exploration, has been restored to replicate the original residence as closely as possible. Entering the home, you’ll feel the warmth of the woodstove and smell the delicious meals prepared daily for the crew. Cooking is done traditionally—without electricity or running water, but with great enthusiasm. Domestic chores such as cleaning, sewing, spinning, and weaving are part of every day’s experience.  Outside, the gardeners take great pride in their work—tending an heirloom kitchen garden, which supplies a wide variety of produce, and flower, herb, and Native American gardens. Several days a week visitors can enjoy blacksmith demonstrations, musicians playing piano and hammer dulcimer, and children playing period games.

In 1995 the Ellen was purchased by Montana Theaterworks which set for itself the task of renovating the Ellen with the intent of returning it to it’s original grandeur and offering live concerts and theater to Bozeman once again. Today the Ellen has a full calendar of events which includes:

HATCH is a year round non-profit organization, designed to develop and foster the growth of creative minds in various industries through mentorship, exposure, and networking. Since it’s inception in 2004, Hatch has successfully developed an environment that strikes the enthusiasm and stimulation of young artist’s creativity throughout the world, by connecting new filmmakers, musicians, photographers, designers, architects, writers and fine artists with award-winning veterans in the entertainment industry. The mission of HATCH is to provide mentorship, education, inspiration and recognition to the next generation of creative innovators.

Three hundred people can fit on the lawn. Arrive early with your blankets or low back lawn chairs, and find a comfortable spot. There is sure to be a festive mood in the air, with music and entertainment each evenings prior to the start of the films at 8:45 pm. Folks are encouraged to walk, bike, or bus it to the event. Luckily, the Story Museum is just a few blocks from our Bozeman bed and breakfast.

Walking distance from the Voss Inn bed and breakfast in downtown Bozeman, Montana, is the Gallatin Art Crossing which exhibits sustainable sculptures throughout the downtown Bozeman area.  Currently the exhibit consists of 17 sculptures encompassing a wide variety of styles and media.  The goal of the program is to add at least one piece of public art to the permanent collection each year.  Such a large free public gallery is a great asset to the artistic community and the City of Bozeman.  For more information, visit www.gallatinartcrossing.com.

Sweet Pea Festival in Bozeman Montana

The Sweet Pea festival is Bozeman’s biggest arts & music festival of the year. The festival was born in 1977 out of the communities desire to celebrate the arts and everything they add to our lives. Over the years it has grown to include the Sweet Pea Ball, The Taste of Bozeman, Shakespeare in the Park, dance workshops, arts and crafts sales, art exhibits, a flower show, concerts, children’s activities, vaudeville, and more.
